Optimize with Confidence

In this four-part live online workshop experience, you'll learn to master the use of Adobe Lightroom Classic to optimize the appearance of your photos. Along the way, get your questions answered during the live sessions or via email.

The four live online sessions will take place during the month of April 2020. Each session will be approximately two hours in duration. All sessions will be recorded, so that photographers who register for this workshop can view (and download) the session recordings anytime at their convenience.

This online workshop is about more than just understanding how the Develop module works in Lightroom Classic. You'll get tips on how to approach the process of optimizing your photos, get recommendations on which adjustments are best for various types of photos, and build confidence in your ability to make all of your photos look their best.

Session Details

During the four live online sessions included in this online workshop, you'll learn to make the most of the many tools within Adobe Lightroom Classic to optimize the appearance of your photos. Here are details of the topics covered in each session:

Optimization Basics

This session will help ensure you have a deep understanding of the basic tonal and color adjustments in Lightroom's Develop module. Topics will include:

• Understanding profiles
• Basic tonal adjustments
• Extracting maximum detail
• Working with the histogram
• Optimizing color balance
• Improving overall color saturation
• Fine-tuning with the Tone Curve

Image Cleanup and Corrections

In this session you'll learn to resolve common challenges with images, including:

• Removing blemishes and distractions
• Applying sharpening
• Reducing noise
• Applying corrections for lens behavior
• Minimizing the appearance of chromatic aberrations
• Correcting perspective distortion issues
• Cropping and rotating an image

Targeted Adjustments

Focused on maximizing the control you can exercise over your photos, this session will cover:

• Correcting individual colors within an image
• Adjusting images with a linear gradient
• Changing the appearance of just the edges or just the center of a photo
• Painting an adjustment into specific areas of an image
• Combining multiple tools for greater precision for targeted adjustments
• Fine-tuning the range of values affected by a targeted adjustment
• Using a depth map to automate certain targeted adjustments

Creativity and Automation

In this session you'll learn to apply several creative adjustments, and also learn about options for automating your optimization workflow. Topics will include:

• Creating optimal black and white interpretations of a photo
• Applying selective color to an image, such as through split-toning
• Adding a vignette effect
• Assembling high dynamic range (HDR) and panoramic images
• Creating and using presets
• Duplicating adjustments across multiple images
