About This Course

In many aspects of photography it can be helpful (or necessary) to do some planning and perhaps perform some calculations. For many of the tasks that involve calculations or planning in photography, the PhotoPills app for mobile devices (both iOS and Android) can be incredibly helpful.

In this course you'll learn how to make the most of the powerful and helpful features of the PhotoPills app. You'll gain confidence in your ability to make use of the various tools in PhotoPills, and may even find yourself taking up new types of photography because of what the app makes possible.

The lessons in this course will guide you through the use of PhotoPills for tasks that include:

  • Getting information about the sun, such as the timing of sunrise and sunset
  • Determining when the moon will be at a particular phase
  • Planning the timing and optimal location for photos that involve the sun, moon, and more
  • Finding out when the sun will be high enough above terrain to illuminate a subject
  • Calculating exposure settings
  • Finding details about celestial objects such as the Milky Way galaxy and meteor showers
  • And much, much more

Along the way I'll share some of the images I was able to capture thanks to the ability to make a detailed plan. For example, PhotoPills makes it possible to determine the position from which you should photograph, along with the right date and time, to include the sun or the moon in the frame of a photo along with a key subject.

Of course, planning for the sun doesn't necessarily mean you want to include the sun in the frame of a photo. With PhotoPills you can also calculate when the sun will be high enough above the terrain to illuminate a subject you intend to photograph. In fact, once you know how to use the tools in PhotoPills, you might be surprised at how many photographic scenarios this app can help with.

If you enjoy photographing the night sky (or would like to give it a try), PhotoPills can help with that too. You can determine when and where the Milky Way galaxy will be visible, get the timing and location details for meteor showers, calculate exposures for star trails or pinpoint stars, and more.

Put simply, with the lessons in this video course, you'll be able to use the many features of PhotoPills to improve your photography.

Total Duration: 3 Hours 47 Minutes
