Photo Planning Apps

This session will cover some of the most powerful apps that can help in various aspects of your photography. Topics will include:

  • Planning for weather conditions
  • Finding locations for photography

Information Apps

In this session you'll learn about a variety of apps that enable you to get more information about your photos in a variety of different scenarios. This will include:

Camera Setting Apps

There are a variety of apps that can be incredibly helpful for making decisions about camera settings in your photography. This session will cover:

During the four live online sessions included in this online workshop, you'll learn to make the most of tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, and plug-ins, for creating optimal black and white interpretations of your color photos. Conversion Basics

This session will provide you with a strong foundation for converting color photos to black and white, with adjustments that are available in both Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. Topics will include:

  • Starting with the right photo
  • Initial adjustments for the color image
  • Interpreting colors to shades of gray
  • Revisiting basic adjustments after conversion.
  • Optimizing contrast and detail
  • Adding basic creative effects

More Control with Photoshop

In this session you'll learn how to exercise greater control over the creation of a black and white photo with powerful tools in Adobe Photoshop. This will include:

  • Getting images into Photoshop
  • Converting to black and white with an adjustment layer
  • Fine-tuning tonality with Curves
  • Optimizing detail with Camera Raw as a filter
  • Creating a partial black and white effect
  • Retaining color in portions of an image

Sophisticated Black and White

There are a variety of plug-ins available for Photoshop and Lightroom Classic that enable you to create remarkable black and white photos from a color image. This session will cover the Silver Efex Pro plug-in, with topics including:

  • Using presets as a starting point for a black and white interpretation
  • Optimizing detail in your photos with powerful adjustment tools
  • Applying targeted adjustments to an image
  • Simulating the effect of colored filters from the wet darkroom
  • Creating the effect of a variety of different film types
  • Adding special creative effects, such as a vignette or color tint

Creative Effects

This session will focus on the Analog Efex Pro plug-in for applying a variety of vintage and creative effects to photos, with topics that will include:

  • Simulating a wide variety of different capture formats, including film, vintage cameras, and wet plate photography
  • Adding special effects to photos, including vignettes, framing effects, light leaks, dirt and scratches, and more
  • Adding blur effects to a photo, including selective and motion blurs
  • Randomizing various creative effects so no two photos will ever look exactly the same
